Vintage Altec Lansing Crossovers

 A simple and crucial component of any audio sound system is the crossover.  It is the most essential form of control for all of the bass components.  It cross-feeds the bass feed of the sound from different channels and translates it to the woofer or, more often, the subwoofer.  One of the most important characteristics of a good crossover is reliability.  Vintage Altec Crossover networks are the cream of the crop in the industry.  If you can find one for sale, snatch it up.  It will last your life-time, if not your children’s.

 These crossovers are built for volume. You can fearlessly blast some hard metal prog rock and get loud but crisp tones. You won’t lose sound complexity just because you crank it up to 11. Don’t be afraid to wake the neighbors, because when they hear this level of sound they’ll be dancing right along with you in minutes.

 There are many decent condition Altec Lansing crossovers to still be found through reputable dealers. If you want to save a few bucks though you can get some “well loved” units for a lot less and restore them yourself. Deterioration is gonna happen, but a couple weekends of dedicated tinkering should get them back into pretty good shape.

 If there’s some serious oxidation or something then don’t toss them. Shop around your friendly neighborhood repair shops and invest in some more serious repairs.
