Vintage Altec Lansing Speakers
Loudspeakers, or simply speaks, referred to a system, usually in a cabinet, of drivers that filter electrical components. Like most other acoustic transducers, loud speakers offer the most variable elements to a home or car stereo system. That’s why it’s important to get the best. Since Altec’s conception, they have been dedicated to building the best loud speakers. In today’s market, their vintage speakers are still the strongest with the longest life span whether you’re talking about subwoofers to tweeters to everything in between.
Over the years the reputation for unique and crystal clear sound has garnered a loyal following for Altec Lansing speakers. Many devotees love their vintage speakers so much that they’ve established lively online forums to discuss their setups. I’ve had the pleasure of participating in some of these and I count myself as one of the altec Lansing faithful. I’m proud to have these pages as a showcase of the proud heritage of these fantastic speakers.
The 872B Madrid and the 879b Santana floor speakers from the 1970’s are special favorites of mine. These are not cheap, if you can find them at all, but the price is worth it. The rich sound never fails to bring me back to those hazy days of hard rock and AM pop. The sound quality is very distinct and just instantly transports me to those bygone days. The Valencia 846 b is another model that still holds up.
This vintage Altec Lansing gear had a very minimal design but they are very attractive in their own way. These speakers were made with enduring quality in mind, and if they’re well maintained their beauty lasts for decades. In a room full of serious audiophiles, these speakers are going to be a real conversation starter, bringing even your old recordings to new life.
I can’t count the number of times I’ve popped some Fleetwood Mac or Dire Straits on the old turntable and in minutes the rich sound of the notes flowing out of my Madrids has every head at the party turning to take in the tunes.
