Vintage Altec Lansing Woofers!

Vintage Altec Lansing Woofer

Woofers are named for the English term for a dog`s bar, 'woof.' These speakers are designed by specific drivers to produce low frequency sounds. Woofers tend to be larger than other speakers, but in a time when bass in music is valued highly, most people make due with their less than compact size. Vintage Altec Lansing Woofers, with their retro stylings, have become popular since their style counterbalances their size.

The woofers are the real workhorses, so they're bound to have taken a beating. The good news though is that even the ancient Altec Lansings usually continue to perform well. If they've been taken care of, they should be a solid investment for years to come.

The Model 15`s are probably you're best bet, followed closely by the Model 19`s. These 2 are practically the same in terms of quality and are believed by most people to be pretty much the top woofers Altec Lansing ever made. If you've got some repairs to make you will have your work cut out for you though. Driver replacement is the trickiest part, so you'll want to find someone to help who really knows what they're doing.

Altec Lansing equipment becomes more than a hobby though, it`s a real obsession. Those hours of work you put in with repairing these babies will pay off for sure when you hear the booming rich sound these things put out. When I got my first set of Altec woofers, I was just about ready to build an addition to my house so I could the fullest in sound and acoustics from these things.
